Problem
Patients with chronic gastrointestinal diseases often lost motivation to follow long-term therapy. Discomfort, the need for a strict diet, and the lack of immediate results reduced adherence to treatment and created psychological pressure, negatively affecting the therapy outcomes.
Solution
We developed a chatbot that supports patients through gamification. The bot encouraged patients to accumulate bonus points for completing various actions: registration, regular medication intake, and following doctors' prescriptions. These bonus points were linked to treatment achievements—patients could see their progress and earn rewards, which helped maintain motivation. Accumulated points could be exchanged for discounts on medication purchases. Additionally, the bot provided information about the points balance and helped in placing orders. The ability to invite other users enhanced the support effect—patients created a kind of community, which increased adherence to treatment.
We integrated the bot with existing pharmacy systems so that patients could easily use their bonus points when making purchases. This approach made therapy more engaging and accessible. The project's BI portal provided detailed information on treatment adherence, allowing data analysis by medical representatives, doctors, and pharmacies.
Results
The use of the chatbot with gamification elements allowed an increase in treatment adherence, which, in turn, contributed to greater engagement among several thousand doctors. Patients became more active in following medical recommendations, and the opportunity to accumulate and use bonus points became a powerful motivational factor.
